Jose Pinheiro and I are pleased to announce that our book
"Mixed-Effects Models in S and S-PLUS" has been published by Springer.
This book covers both the theory and practice of mixed-effects models
and provides a comprehensive guide to the use of the nlme library for
S-PLUS and R.

The R library has one major omission - most of the graphics methods
are not presently available in R. The graphics in the nlme library
use Trellis extensively and Trellis-like capabilities are not yet
available in R.

Further information regarding the book is available at
                   http://nlme.stat.wisc.edu/MEMSS/
