The R-1.2.3 packages for the Debian 2.3 testing (or woody) release went
up on CRAN yesterday. It may take a day or two for them to migrate to
the mirrors.

I am not able to build the packages for the stable (potato) release of
Debian 2.2 because I don't have access to any machines running 2.2.
I can put the sources up but I will need a volunteer to do the actual
build for me. It could be as simple as
 apt-get upgrade
 apt-get source r-base
 cd r-base-1.2.3
 dpkg-makepackage -rfakeroot -us -uc
and shipping me the result.

In theory that is all that needs to be done. In practice the last
step will probably require multiple iterations of loading other
packages that are required to build r-base and r-gnome. Compilations
of the Gnome version and of the Tcl/Tk package require that many
supporting packages be installed. Getting the exact combination
correct takes a few tries.

Please contact me if you can do this.

(For those who may wonder about names like "potato" and "woody", the
Debian releases are given code names of characters from the movie "Toy
Story". Bruce Perens, the former Debian Project Leader, was a systems
programmer at Pixar, the company that made that movie.)
