[R] Error at save.image() with SetupRpatched.exe

After installing
http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/RWin/Rpre/SetupRpatched.exe

on a Win95 machine,
save.image() produces the error:
Error in save.image(name) : image could not be renamed and is left in
.RDataTmp

and, actually, .RDataTmp is not created.

save.image(safe = FALSE)

works fine.

This sounds simmilar to the problem reported
Marc R. Feldesman <feldesmanm@pdx.edu> on Win 2000, but could not find
the fix in the archives.

Is this a bug? a problem in my system? a wrong installation?...
