Just to clarify: The 'stable' distribution does not get augmented by new (and
potentially buggy) packages. Those go into 'unstable' which is Debian's
current development-in-progress. Once all issues with the development
distribution are ironed out, 'unstable' is released and becomes the new
'stable'. So R will officially be distributed by Debian on the upcoming 2.0
release (no timeline; Debian is often a little late with releases anyway).
The current work on 'unstable' aka Debian 2.0 comprises, among other things,
the conversion to libc6 which takes some time to resolve. That's why it's a
good idea to offer libc5 (== Debian 1.3) versions of R once 0.60 is out.
Looking forward to working with Douglas' R packages!
Cheers, Dirk
