In my opinion the S way of doing graphics is quite messy. The parameters
have complicated effects upon one another. For example a side-effect of
mar is that it changes the aspect ratio of the plot. But it would make
much more sense to have a parameter whose sole purpose is to vary the
aspect ratio of the plot. And how about another parameter that scales
the whole plot including fonts? So I don't see the S way as sacred at all.
It all needs to be better thought out I would say.
