Thanks to all!

I thought I was keeping up with the help list, but I guess I must have
missed this exchange.
Knowing what to look for, I found it on Robert King's archive of the R
lists (searching those archives doesn't seem to work; I wrote him about
it).

0.62.3 appears to compile fine now.

Perhaps I'll eventually figure out a more elegant way to deal with the
problem, but I probably won't bother ...
