As John says, the RSS article was actually an Allstat article
attributed to John Nelder. The precise www reference is

If you agree with John's philosophy (and on this point I
certainly do) it makes a useful point.
I have my own opinion on what the statistical package with the
"four letter acronym" name might be, but I could be wrong.
