Hi,

first versions of RPMs of R and its libraries for SuSE 5.3 are available
at CRAN:

ftp://ftp.ci.tuwien.ac.at/pub/R/bin/linux/suse/

I compiled it with gcc and g77 from egcs 1.1b.

There are still some problems:

+ the "event", "gnlm", ... libraries are missing (g77 complains about
wrong declarations)
+ "modreg" does not work (library contains unresolved symbols)
+ "e1071" currently has no support for pgm routines.

But I hope to solve these problems step by step.

Albrecht

PS:
Here is the README file from

R packages for S.u.S.E. Linux
=============================

These packages are compiled with egcs 1.1b on S.u.S.E 5.3.

The latest versions are always available at

ftp://ftp-stat.uni-klu.ac.at/pub/R/bin/linux/suse/5.3/

and mirrored at CRAN under

ftp://ftp.ci.tuwien.ac.at/pub/R/bin/linux/suse/5.3/

Libraries (libreadline and libblas) are statically linked, so you need
no extra packages with shared libraries.

Each package is divided into two parts "R-<name>" with the binaries and files
needed at runtime and "R-<name>-source" with the appropriate source tree.

If you are not interested in the source tree you can omit all "R-<name>-source"
packages.

You will need at least R-x.xx-y.i386.rpm, which contains the base installation
of R (with x.xx.y replaced by the version number from R-x.xx.y.tgz).
All other libraries from CRAN/contrib have their own packages.

Directories:

base/ base package
contrib/ library packages
source/ source trees for base and library packages (no source-RPMs!)
all-in-one/ one big package with all libraries and whole source tree
ess/ packages with ESS-mode for GNU Emacs and XEmacs

Of course, you can also find the source-RPMs here (../../SRPMS/). I use them
not only for S.u.S.E. Linux but also for Digital Unix, see

ftp://ftp.uni-klu.ac.at/pub/uni-klu.ac.at/rpms/osf1/alpha/

PS:
RPMs with egcs 1.1b for S.u.S.E 5.3 are also available at

ftp://ftp-stat.uni-klu.ac.at/pub/RPMS/i386/
