floating-point underflow.  Many systems just return 0 on undeflow, but
some don't like it.  There may be other places where it happens too.
I will look the pnorm source to see if there is a clean fix.  If not I
may to do something horrible like
	if(x < -38.0) return 0;

I misread "as.single" as "as.real".  Mike's fix is indeed a correct one.
