Subject: R-alpha: Problem: list() cannot be updated

[this is the same for 0.4 or 0.5]:

Try this in R. It shows what I consider a bug:

l1 <- list(a = pi)
l1 $ d <- 1:3
l1
## okay

l2 <- list()
l2 $ d <- 1:3
l2 ## NOT okay: still empty!
