Jim (and the rest of the list),

  The problem is that in most cases you do want to save the results of
an R session if it's run in batch mode and so that is the default.
You can get around this by using the save option in quit. If you put
the line
quit(save="no")
at the end of your batch files then the image won't be saved.
Other values are save="ask"; you get queried (not good for batch mode)
and save="yes"; the default in batch mode

You can also put something like
  if(!interactive())
	quit(save="no")
so that you can still source the script without it quiting at the end.

  I know this isn't documented (yet). I try to spend an hour a day on
documentation which isn't enough but it's about as much free time as I
can manage these days.

ps. 0.8 is horribly broken so don't try things like x$a<-x$b<-NULL
    it should be fixed today though.....
