Subject: R-alpha: R Version 0.10

Version 0.10alpha of R is now available from stat.auckland.ac.nz
in pub/R/R-0.10alpha.tgz.

This is a bit of a rushed release and I will be out of town for a
week, so you may want to keep your old sources ... Enjoy.

>From the CHANGES file:

1. The major change is that the base distribution of R no longer
contains any fortran code. We have done a complete translation
of Linpack into C, so all that functionality is still available.
Eispack is a little more problematic, but some selected routines
are available. We may adopt some functionality from Lapack.

2. A number of incompatibilties with S have been uncovered in the
process of porting the Survival3 package. Some (all?) of these
have now been fixed. The major thing that users will notice is
that partial matching for extracting named list elements is now
done in the approved S way.

3. lm will now handle the model specification y~1.

4. A set of regression Belsley, Kuh and Welsch style regression
diagnostics has been implemented. See lm.influence for details.
NOTE: Our lm.influence is not identical to the S one! Our one
returns the change in coefficients b(i)-b rather than the
    coefficients b(i).

5. Basic non-linear optimization facilities are now in place.
These are based on a subset of the routines described in
Dennis and Schnabel. A more complete implementation is in
    the works.

6. There is now an implementation of read.table. See the manual
    entry for details.
