Subject: R-alpha: 'configure' -- how can I NOT use gcc ?

On some machines we have a supposedly optimized C compiler available,
but we also have gcc.

./configure  finds gcc and is happy and puts it into the Makefiles;

but how can I tell it NOT to use it but to use the other one?

	setenv CC /PATH/OF/cc
	./configure

did NOT work.

(I know I can edit all the Makefiles or something, but I wonder how to do
 this using  'configure' ..)

Thank you for your hints...
