I got the following bug on a DecAlpha machine with the nlm routine:

R : Copyright 1996, Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka
Version 0.13  (Released: November 7, 1996)

R is free software and comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.
You are welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions.
Type "license()" for details.

[Previously saved workspace restored]

> f <- function(x) x^2
f <- function(x) x^2
> z0 <- c(5)
z0 <- c(5)
> nlm(f,p=z0)
Floating exception
$

R was compiled using gcc.
