I should add:  Splus also seems to do rounding when evaluating a:b,
as

S> (0.3 - 0.1) / 0.01
[1] 20
S> as.integer ((0.3 - 0.1) / 0.01)
[1] 19
S> 0 : ((0.3 - 0.1) / 0.01)
 [1]  0  1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20
