Subject: R-alpha: Minor: print.default (..., print.gap = 0 ) -- extra spaces..

I would like that a print.gap = 0
be allowed in print.default.
(Actually, why call it 'print.gap' instead of just 'gap' ??)

Here is one 'reason' (I know I had another occasion that I forgot about):

print.default sometimes uses too much white space, "accidentally" :
Look at the result of

	paste(1:10) # which calls print.default

it has 2 spaces between all of the strings.

  paste(1:4)
or
  paste(10 + 1:4)

both print ok. And if you think a bit and maybe also try
	paste(1:33)
it becomes quite clear that 1:10 was 'unlucky'...
