Subject: R-alpha: memory exhausted

A few times now I have had "Error: memory exhausted" but when I follow
garbage collection with

>gcinfo(1)

or even when I do

>gcinfo(1)
>gcinfo(0)

then the memory exhausted problem does not happen when I try to reproduce
it. I usually start R with -v40.

Is this an undocumented feature?
