I tried the same on Debian GNU/Linux 1.2.x:

R> plot(x, trigamma(x), type='l', col="red")
Error: Length cannot be negative
R> plot(1, 1.25e308)
R> plot(1, 1.3e308)
Error: Length cannot be negative
R> plot(1, 1.27e308)
Error: Length cannot be negative

(Not exactly right, but ...)
