Subject: Was Re: R-alpha: compatibility

Anybody with a minute to spare,

could you clarify how R differs from S in scoping rules (cf recent comments from
Jim Lindsey).

More generally, is there anything written on the design ethic of R eg why/where
it is fundamentally better than S, what it does to enable `for' loops to run in
finite time, etc? Or do I have to bite the bullet and read all the code?

Cheers,

Simon Fear
