S-PLUS is not available for any Unix variant or clone that runs
on PC hardware. That is my *primary* interest in R--to fill a
major void that forces me to buy expensive hardware to maintain
both the rich Unix working environment and the analytical
capabilities of S.

S-PLUS *is* available for Windows, but then you lose the power
of Unix.
