Yes.

(a) read http://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/R-admin.html, especially the section C1, platform notes for Linux

(b) also read the section on what is a bug and what is not a bug in http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~hornik/R/R-FAQ.html#R%20Bugs

(c) If you are that new to compiling R on FC4, why not use the RPMs from Fedora Extra?
