Hi,
I think you could also use this way (via array, see http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/apply-over-list-of-data-frames-td3057968.html)

b <- list()

b[[1]] = matrix(1:4, 2, 2)
b[[2]] = matrix(10:13, 2, 2)
b[[3]] = matrix(20:23, 2, 2)

b.a <- array(unlist(b), dim=c(2, 2, 3))

(b.mean <- apply(X = b.a, MARGIN = c(1, 2), FUN = mean))

(b.sum <- apply(X = b.a, MARGIN = c(1, 2), FUN = sum))
