Dear Prof. Ripley,

Your version does work indeed, I hadn't tested this one. I tried the following two versions where neither of them did:

Version 1:
> postscript(filename="")
> par(mfrow=c(2,2),family="mono")
> plot(1:10)
> plot(1:10)
> plot(1:10)
> plot(1:10)

Version 2:
> postscript(filename="")
> plot(1:10,family="mono")

The 'problem' is that you have not provided us with reproducible code, and used an obsolete version of R. At least some of the ways you might have done this you needed to specify the 'fonts' argument to postscript().

As a minimal example,

> postscript(family="mono")
> plot(1:10)

works in R 2.6.1. If that does not work for you, you need to update. If it does, you need to consider what you did differently.
