Are you working in a Korean locale? If so, this is the same as 11903 and 11974 and see

for two workarounds. It is (reported to be) fixed in R-patched already.

Unhelpfully, you didn't tell us what the error message was.

It is not frequent: it affects some (but not all) systems set to Korean.
