[R] Having R (not the OS) redirect stderr() to stdout()

R users,

I am aware that R can be invoked such that the operating system redirects standard error (stderr) to standard output (stdout), but I want to have R itself (not the OS) redirect the connection given by stderr() to connection given by stdout(). Is that possible? Perhaps equivalently, can I make all error messages and warnings go to stdout() instead of stderr()? Any suggestions? Thanks!
