In comparing 2 GAM models are there some guidelines to determine which model might be a better fit by comparing the 2 UBRE scores? I assume that a larger value is indicative of a better fit? What magnitude of difference is a significant one? I imagine that one could also use the percent of explained deviance. Is that a reliable statistic? Are there any other statistics that one would use for model selection?
