Is this what you want?

`data.frame': 10 obs. of 3 variables:

 $ x  : chr  "XYZ" "XYZ" "XYZ" "XYZ" ...
 $ y  : chr  "A" "B" "C" "D" ...
 $ fac: chr  "B" "A" "C" "B" ...
