   Is this on windows? If so, how about the following:

 > windows()
 > plot(y~x)
 > windows()
 > plot(q~x)

   For me, this creates two different plot _windows_ and you could tile them to see each side-by-side. But I'm not sure how that would be preferable to having the plots in the same window. What exactly do you mean by different screens?
