This is a 64-bit FC* issue. I believe we did a year or so ago run i686 firefox (from mozilla.org) and the Sun Java + plugin on AMD64 FC2.

Note that help.search() will do all that the HTML search engine does, and more.

On Windows, you would get help for a different version of R, but i686 Linux would be fine. The latter is our solution: we only use AMD64 machines as servers.
