You had a problem with the width & height arguments? Probably best to use device independent method for scripting.

    grdev <- function(...) {

        get(getOption("device"))(...)
    }

    grdev(width = 7.8, height = 5.8)
    #quartz(width = 7.8, height = 5.8)
