You could try a newer build, available on my web page (http://www.stats.uwo.ca/faculty/murdoch/software). If it dies the same way, you could perhaps try to diagnose what is going wrong and send a patch if it's an rgl bug. Given the age of your video driver (9/20/2000), you might be able to update it and fix a bug there.
