          Will 'na.locf' in the 'zoo' package do what you want?

          If not, please provide commented, minimal, self-contained, reproducible code as suggested in the posting guide (www.R-project.org/posting-guide.html).

p.s. The 'zoo' package contains an excellent vignette. If you are not familiar with vignettes, I suggest you read "http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/67006.html" and then try the zoo vignette.
