R-alpha: as.single is broken + Pnorm

I have no problems with either of these functions on my Sun.

	[1] 1
	> pnorm(-40)
	[1] 0

The pnorm problem may well be a system dependent arithmetic thing
(symptoms?), but I confess to being puzzled by as.real.
