Subject: R-alpha: memory size

I am a new user of R. This question may be discussed among you

I have been trying to convert my S-objects to R, and I can
successfully use 'dput' in S and 'source' in R to do the job. But
I encountered a problem of memory size in R. How large does R can
hold under one directory? It seems to me that R will not work if
.Rdata is larger than as small as 1MB! Something wrong with my
installation? Could you please give me some advice?

Many thanks,
