In R0.16.1 I have been having sporadic problems with pmin() when running
batch jobs. R reports "Invalid left-hand
side to assignment" which traceback() locates in pmin(). The commands
involve pmin() applied with one vector and one scalar argument.

Restarting R interactively and carrying out exactly the same command in
the saved workspace does not repeat the error and it doesn't happen at a
reproducible time in the simulation. Replacing pmin() by an equivalent
ifelse() command fixes the problem.
