Indeed thanks to ripley@ for submitting it. I don't see a note in the NEWS file and it would be nice to point this out as fixed since others may have run into this problem. Could someone submit something like this as well?

     o read.fwf() works again when 'file' is a connection.

+ o R now works correctly with filesystem paths longer than 255 + characters on platforms that support it (PR#14228).
